Jett went to a friend’s birthday party today and was having lots of fun. Then there was an announcement that pizza was ready for the kids. All the kids sat down to eat, but of course Jett couldn’t have any. We distracted him with his own snacks and initially was hesitant, but then agreed. Then it was time for cake. I always bring him his own similar foods to what is being served so he can feel “included”, but today was different.
Jett usually understands that he gets sick from eating certain foods but it really affected him for the first time ever. He was upset sitting next to all the kids that we’re eating vanilla cake with frosting, while he noticed that his was chocolate.
Today was a reminder (of many) of why we’re thankful to be in Dr. R’s program. One day I won’t have to pack Jett his own separate treats!
